Gibson 70s Explorer Reissue – 2002 – Ebony

Excellent early 2000’s Gibson Explorer reissue in ebony nitro lacquer with black 3-ply BWB pickguard. Comes in original hard case without papers, and weighs 9lb and 1oz and is set up on 10s. Condition is very good, excellent neck, frets are very clean, great fretboard. Usual sins of black lacquer, sink, checking, hazing, light impressions, minor dings, see below. Not new, not pristine, aging gracefully. Original 4 ply pickguard included, 490T in the bridge replaces the stock 500T which is included in the case but has no signal.

Condition

Front presents better than the back. Front, back and sides show various small marks, dings and flaws in the black lacquer. See the pictures, ask for more. Light buckle rash across the top back horn, couple of nicks in the clear, one flake of finish revealing the mahogany beneath. Small marks on the edges, paint missing from around the lower strap button. Hazing on sides, there’s a gash caused by a strap or stand behind the top strap button, Light impressions, small flaws in the finish, light scratches, slight evidence of hanger damage on the headstock where it meets the neck. Hazing where skin contacts. The front is much cleaner than the back, wear is minimal. Full adjustment available on truss rod. Plastics and hardware are in excellent condition. The lock on the case is broken; there’s a replacement in the case. The broken lock is held closed at the moment with small magnets, which work to hold the catch down. Generally, this Explorer presents as excellent, but flaws can be found.
