2011 Gibson 50th SG Pete Townsend Anniversary Edition
The Gibson 50th Anniversary SG Special WHO edition, a signature instrument for Pete Townsend in Polaris White is a rare and beautiful thing. This one is even rarer in that there are no chips, cracks or dents in the lightly aged white nitro finish. The original Grovers have been replaced with locking Grovers, the wiring has been updated to a 50’s style with bumblebee capacitors, other than that this tastefully modified instrument is as it left the factory, in the case it left in. Better than most, shows light play wear, some discoloration on the back of the headstock and where the lower bout has reacted to a black leather strap. The paint around the neck has lightly yellowed on the neck, probably a reaction to being held and played. It’s an amazing sounding instrument, light and resonant, very beautiful and clean. This one was kept in its case when it wasn’t being played and it shows. No certificates or COA, just the instrument and the case it came in. A beautiful player grade instrument. Weighs in at 7lb and 8oz and is setup on 10’s.
Condition is an easy 8.5/10 – looks amazing, great paint, no damage, aging gracefully.

This instrument is in beautiful player grade condition. It’s not a case queen, it has been used and played and looked after as well. The original case is clean although the COA and other papers are long gone. There are no breaks chips or dings on the guitar. The paint is generally very good but there are a couple of spots where it has through contact with other material become slightly yellowed. There is a blue-black mark on the lower bout around the strap button where the nitro finish has absorbed some color from a black strap, there is a slight yellowing on the back of the neck, probably where the instrument contacting the case, and there is a small discolored area on the back of the headstock consistent with a tuner nitro burning the finish. White nitro is notorious, this is one of the better ones, Polaris White is an extremely rare color, looks great.
