Spec & Description

1985 Gibson Les Paul Studio Standard – Wine Red

Excellent looking, sounding and playing vintage specification Gibson Les Paul Studio Standard from the year 1985, with clean yet aged cream binding that has changed color to a deep yellow-amber. This one has lots of vintage touches that make it feel like something from the golden age rather than a mid-eighties instrument. Frets are low, show light wear, not big modern frets, this is what it was at the time, the rosewood feels and looks great, lots of figuring and variation. This guitar has dot inlays, another detail that sets it apart from a normal studio instrument. A 3-piece top looks excellent in this Wine-Red nitro finish. Mother of pearl Schaler tuner buttons is another touch that sets this apart and makes it feel special.

This guitar sounds and looks excellent, feels amazing and plays extremely well. The Nashville style bridge looks like it was placed upside down on the instrument, but it intonates cleanly across every string, plays without buzzing along the length of the rosewood fretboard.

Condition is 8/10 – lots of light wear, patina, shallow scratches, impressions, lacquer sink, checking etc. It’s everything that you want in an older nitro finish that is aging gracefully, looking and feeling great. Patina is the word that best describes this instrument, it displays much patina. Comes in a deluxe Gibson hard case w. shroud with a clean, odor free interior and working latches and hinges. The instrument is in great condition, absolutely screams, and looks fantastic doing it, and now pushing 40 years old, it has real vintage credentials. When you’re looking for cool vibe-filled instruments you tell yourself that vintage is overrated, until you encounter something like this that has the ability to get under your skin. Wide binding in the cutaway, old-school, not something you see all the time. The guitar weighs a very manageable 9lb 3oz and is setup on 10’s.

Condition is 8/10 for light playwear, swirling and general light patina consistent with a forty-year-old instrument. See the pictures ask for more.

Condition

This guitar is generally clean, showing play wear, light, hard to photograph impressions, swirls, light pick marks, light scratches, checking. There are two small dings, roughly 1mm on the lower back bout. There’s lots of wear but not a lot of damage. The edge of the headstock has taken a knock on the treble side, the lacquer is damaged but no wood is exposed. The black lacquer has flaked away from under the edges of the tuner bushings on the D and high E, there are various small hits on the top and back of the headstock, lacquer sink, some checking, there’s a small chip out of the finish on the lower bout at the back, consistent with a guitar stand. There’s a small crack on the corner of the plastic of the pickguard where it meets the neck. There are small cracks in the binding beneath the frets. There’s a very small amount of wear on the back, various light impressions. swirls, small marks in the lacquer, small chips in the finish of the edges along the lower bout. See the pictures, ask for more. As always there are better pictures on my own site, deegearlocker, dotcom, than Reverb will host. This is not a pristine object, it is now pushing 40 years old, feels like it has some age now, technically a vintage instrument at this point in its journey. It looks great, is all original, plays and sounds excellent.
