1976 Greco EG-700 Singlecut – Goldtop
Beautiful late 70s Greco EG-700 single cut Les Paul copy had a chemical damaged top, and I had it refinished by Pat Wilkins in Van Nuys, Ca, as a Goldtop – the traditional finish of choice for anything with heavy damage to the front. It’s an excellent copy, notable for having a slimmer tapering neck instead of a bat with a volute like a 70s Gibson This high end instrument also has fret binding, a bone nut, rosewood fretboard, hand wound pickups. The neck is a 3-piece maple with 22 clean frets on the dark rosewood board. Black plastics and Black Speedknobs with a cream switch tip dress the front, clean cream plastic cavity covers finish the back. Greco branded Grover kidney-button style tuners do string winding duty. Looks excellent, vintage style wiring, orange drop caps with hand wound Maxon Z style tribute humbucking pickups. Weighs 10lb 9oz, not a lightweight, no weight relief of any kind, the 3-piece maple neck is thicker and beefier feeling than a slim taper 60s, not quite a 58. Setup on 10s, comes in a modern aftermarket hard case with the original cream pickguard. Serial dates it to June of 1976, made by FujiJen, Tokyo, Japan.
Condition
Condition is excellent. Full adjustment on the truss rod, no notable wear, the binding discoloration is original to the guitar and gives the game away, not new, not pristine, beautiful glossy finish, deep carved maple top. The hardware isn’t stock except for the Greco branded tuners. The plastics are stock.
