1972-75 Gibson Hummingbird – Natural
Very nice Gibson Hummingbird dating from the early to mid 70’s. the top deformed when the braces came loose. These have been repaired and the instrument set up into an excellent sounding player grade instrument at Eric’s Guitar Shop in Van Nuys, CA. Surprisingly original, absolutely analog, no electronics whatsoever. Lightweight, resonant, excellent overall structure, nice neck, a little wear in the first couple of positions for the cowboy chords, but overall very flat with typically low 70’s style frets. The truss rod nut looks good, turns both ways. Because of the deformation in the top, I think it saved the neck from it’s inevitable fold. The action is high but very tolerable, the instrument plays without buzzing or dead frets for it’s entire length. If you’re interested in this instrument, know it’s not without problems, take a look at the pictures, the top isn’t flat, though it has now been stabilized. The back and sides are excellent, the binding is intact and in great shape on the neck and body, there’s lots to like. Comes in a slightly tatty Gibson hard case for a dreadnaught sized instrument where it is safe and secure even though one of the latches is missing and has been replaced with an elastic hair-tie.
Condition is 6.5-7/10 – see the pictures, not new, not pristine, not without problems, lots of potential too, lots and lots to like.

Good condition overall, shows play wear, obviously, impressions and swirls in the nitro finish, impressions and other signs of use, checking, older repairs I can’t even begin to speculate on. There’s a fill on the back of the neck that I suspect at one point had an extra strap button applied to it, or it may just be an older repair, not pretty, to repair an ancient ding.
