1965 Fender Mustang Neck – w/ Kabuki Pink Custom Jagstang Hardtail Body
The question remains ‘Is it a Mustang with a Jagstang body or is it a Jagstang with a vintage Mustang neck?’
The answer depends on where you think the soul of an instrument resides. This Jagstang body was originally made by the Fujijen factory in Tokyo, Japan, around the year 1995. The neck is dated from 1965, is from a vintage Mustang and was re-fretted by the guys at Eric’s Guitar Shop in Van Nuys, CA. The neck shows lots of authentic patina, it lights up like a Christmas tree under UV light, has wear in the first few positions, but feels fantastic and looks amazing with its rosewood fretboard. The MIJ Jagstang body and pickups does all the Mustang stuff with the added noise a humbucker brings. The usual in and out of phase controls are retained, the instrument has standard Jagstang wiring. This comes in an aftermarket hard case. The bridge is an AVRI part with the Mustang 7.25″ radius, Dynamic Stoptail Assembly instead of a Mustang style tremolo. Chonky, 7lb and 11oz, blame the Japanese, all the weight is in the body. Looks, feels, plays and sounds excellent. The color is Kabuki Pink, invented by Pat Wilkins to look like the faded shade of Fiesta Red that would age to the color of salmon pink, or coral. Yummy.
Condition is 8/10 – this is an instrument of 2 parts, and some of these parts are 60 years old, some are only 30-years-old, so not much is new. The Kabuki Pink paint is very clean, the Jagstang portion of the guitar is an easy 9/10, shows the lightest playwear, there’s a sugar flake out of the bass-side neck pocket, roughly 1mm. The hardware is effectively new, an AVRI bridge replaces the Japanese Mustang one, Dynamic Stoptail assembly replaces the Vibrato unit on a stock Mustang/Jagstang etc. See the pictures, ask for more. As usual, there are many more pictures than Reverb will host on my own site, deegearlocker dotcom.
Condition
Very good condition, but obviously an instrument of two parts, and even the most modern part has been refinished, so not sure what to say, it is what it is. Obvious wear on the neck, one or two dings on the headstock, as fitting a 60-year-old thing. Dynamic Stoptail assembly instead of Mustang style floating tremolo. Plays, looks, sounds amazing.
