1990 Gibson Les Paul Standard – Heritage Cherry Sunburst – w/ Chainsaw Case
Here’s a Les Paul Standard in beautiful Heritage Cherry Sunburst from 1990 with a rare voluted headstock in Heritage Cherry Sunburst nitro lacquer finish, 1-piece mahogany neck, 2-piece top, solid body construction, original wiring. The neck is a rare model with volute which they were still doing in 1990, clean frets and beautiful rosewood fretboard. This guitar has a matched set of uncovered Gibson pickups, the installation appears original, pot codes date to 1990, stamp in the body cavity and serial on the headstock match to the 17th of December of that year. Single piece mahogany neck instead of a 3-piece maple, as it would have been in 1980 when specs like this were more typical.
Fresh pro setup by the guys at Eric’s Guitars in Van Nuys, California. The pickup cavity is stamped HCSB, a nice 2-piece top show small dings, scratches and impressions. The guitar weighs 8lb and 13oz with a fresh setup on 10s. This is a factory guitar from 1990 with a 70s style neck with big volute. 1-piece mahogany instead of 3-piece maple, like it would be in seventies. Serial number reads 93510XXX and matches date stamp in the body cavity, no signs of headstock repair under UV light, guitar fluoresces evenly, this really is how it left the factory. Check out many more pictures at deegearlocker dotcom. There are 60+ photos there including the UV shots; yes, Gibson did made guitars into the 90s with volutes, they are rare but do exist. Clean low wide frets, nice patina on the hardware, just a beautiful vintage player from 1990 with vintage touches such as the wide binding in the cutaway. Feels older than it is but in a good way, mostly because the neck feels like it belongs to an older thing by at least a decade. Excellent sounding, playing, looking. Truss rod has full adjustment. The stamped pickups read 7.8k in the neck and 13.2k in the bridge, the middle position reads 3.7k.
Condition is 8/10 for play wear, patina, aging. Not new, not pristine, just excellent, fresh with an excellent setup on 10s and an uncommon specification from the factory.
Condition
This instrument is in beautiful vintage and aged condition, it shows play wear, is not new or pristine. Presents as very good, aging of the lacquer is evident, binding is in great shape, headstock shows scratches from string changes. There’s a small amount of checking on the sides, worming and light buckle rash, light dings and scratches on the sides and back, hazing, wear around the controls, one or two dings on the top, small amount of chipping on the back of the neck. Pickup covers removed from the vintage pickups at some point; these pickups had chrome/nickel covers when they were wound. The original pickguard is included, and you can see in the blacklight photos that it never fit particularly well leaving a gap between it and the neck.
